Course Description
Carbon Capture, Transport, and Storage, commonly known as CCS, is a strategic technology designed to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from industrial sources and power plants. CCS is crucial because it addresses emissions from sectors that are difficult to decarbonize, such as cement, steel, and fossil-fuel-based power generation. By capturing CO2 before it enters the atmosphere and securely storing it, CCS provides a pathway to meet global climate targets. It is a complementary measure to renewable energy and energy efficiency, allowing for continued industrial activity while significantly lowering greenhouse gas emissions. Direct air capture, a variant of CCS, can even remove CO2 already present in the atmosphere, contributing to negative emissions.
