Heating and Cooling System Upgrades
Course Description
HVAC system upgrades refer to the improvement, replacement, or optimization of existing heating and cooling systems to enhance performance, efficiency, and sustainability. In many buildings, HVAC systems are not replaced entirely but are incrementally upgraded over time. This can include replacing major equipment like chillers and boilers, or smaller interventions such as improving controls or sealing ductwork. A critical concept here is that upgrades should not be treated as isolated equipment changes. Instead, they must be approached as system-level improvements, because HVAC performance depends on how components interact. Modern upgrade strategies are driven by three main objectives: reducing energy consumption, improving occupant comfort, and meeting environmental regulations.
What you'll learn in this course?
Evaluate existing HVAC heating and cooling systems for performance gaps and inefficiencies.
Understand modern upgrade strategies for boilers, chillers, heat pumps, and air distribution systems.
Apply energy efficiency principles to HVAC system retrofits and replacements.
Identify opportunities for decarbonization and electrification in HVAC upgrades.
Analyze lifecycle cost benefits of HVAC system improvements.
Integrate smart controls and building automation systems into upgraded HVAC designs.
Improve indoor comfort, air quality, and system reliability through upgrades.
